The Best Beaches in the Bahamas

With hundreds of islands and cays, the Bahamas has a beach for every mood. Here are seven favourites, from easy-to-reach city beaches to once-in-a-lifetime spots in the Out Islands.

Cable Beach, New Providence

A long, curving beach west of downtown Nassau, lined with resorts and restaurants. The water is usually calm and clear — ideal for an easy beach day.

Junkanoo Beach, Nassau

A short walk from downtown and the cruise port, and right next to the Arawak Cay Fish Fry. Great for a quick swim followed by fresh conch.

Cabbage Beach, Paradise Island

A wide, powdery beach on the north shore of Paradise Island, backed by casuarina trees. Waves can be stronger here, so check conditions before swimming.

Pink Sands Beach, Harbour Island

Tiny pieces of coral and shell give this three-mile beach its soft pink glow. Rent a golf cart and spend the day.

Pig Beach, Big Major Cay, Exumas

Home of the famous swimming pigs. Most visitors arrive by boat tour from Nassau or Great Exuma. Please follow your guide’s rules and never feed the pigs anything but approved food.

Treasure Cay Beach, Abaco

A three-and-a-half-mile crescent of fine white sand and shallow, glass-clear water that feels almost private.

Gold Rock Beach, Grand Bahama

Inside Lucayan National Park. Visit at low tide, when sandbars and ripples stretch far out into the sea.

Beach tips

  • Pack reef-safe sunscreen to help protect the coral.
  • Carry water and shade — many Out Island beaches have no facilities.
  • Respect wildlife and leave shells and coral where you find them.
